How Fire Cider Became a Timeless Remedy

(I am not a doctor. Feel free to do your own research.)

I'm going to take a better photo. I had to zoom in because of the reflection.

I've learned that fire cider has been used as a natural remedy for centuries. In this letter, we're going to take a journey back in time to explore its history together. It takes about 4-6 weeks of fermentation. Like the fermented garlic honey, the fire cider has to be burped to release the gases.

A Brief History.

Fire cider was often made with a blend of herbs and spices like garlic, fresh horseradish, ginger, and more, submerged in apple cider vinegar as an all-in-one health tonic to combat seasonal illnesses like colds and flus. It was believed to strengthen the immune system and aid in digestion

Key Ingredients + History.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Used for centuries for aiding in digestion and detoxifying the body.

Garlic

Anti-inflammatory properties.

Ginger

Used for nausea, circulation, and digestion.

Honey

A natural sweetener and has been historically used for soothing sore throats and coughs. It is not used in the fire cider until after the fermentation process.

Making Your Own Fire Cider.

It's easy to make. Chop up the main ingredients, put them in a glass container with a lid, and cover with apple cider vinegar. Add herbs like turmeric, rosemary, and thyme. Experiment! It's customizable. Just make sure all the ingredients are fully submerged. Mine are, though in this photo my orange doesn't look like it. I didn't squeeze the juice of the first orange I used, so I added an extra orange, squeezing the juice first, then stirring it into the apple cider vinegar.

Health Benefits.

Fire cider is praised for boosting immunity and digestive health; however, scientific research is limited. What is known is the individual benefits of each ingredient.

Caution.

Since fire cider is highly acidic due to the apple cider vinegar, it may irritate some people's stomachs or teeth. Drink in moderation, considering diluting it with water and honey. If you have acid reflux, you may need to avoid it.
