Exploring The World of Natural Remedies.
I am constantly learning about ways to support the body naturally. (I'd like to include that I am not at all against medicine when necessary.) One remedy that I'm learning about is fermented garlic in honey. It's very easy to make, and the benefits seem to be amazing: immune support, digestive health, nervous system calming ... the list goes on and on. So, I decided to try it out myself.
Whether you're already into natural remedies or just starting to explore them, I hope this post encourages you to experiment, learn, and connect deeper with your body.
What is Fermented Honey Garlic?
Fermented honey garlic is exactly what it sounds like: raw garlic cloves submerged in raw honey that ferments over time. Both honey and garlic have their own natural enzymes and beneficial microbes. Combining them creates a fermentation process. Over a few weeks ... within a month, the garlic softens, the honey thins out from the juices of the garlic, and bubbles start to form. When you see the bubbles, fermentation is happening.
Health Benefits of Fermented Garlic + Honey (Based on Research).
(This is what I'm learning, and it is not medical advice.)
The combination of garlic and honey is considered a powerhouse. Here's what I'm learning so far about the potential benefits:
Immune Support
Garlic has antiviral and antibacterial properties and has been used for centuries. Honey, especially raw, is also antimicrobial and soothing. Together, they may help support your body during cold and flu season.
Gut + Nervous System Support
Fermented foods can help nourish the gut microbiome, which plays a huge role in nervous system regulation. While I'm still learning about the gut-brain axis, this garlic and honey combination may support digestion. I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Anti-Inflammatory Benefits
Garlic and honey both have anti-inflammatory compounds.
How to Make Fermented Garlic + Honey.
Raw honey
Fresh garlic cloves (peeled)
Clean glass jar
Instructions:
Lightly crush, slice, or pierce the garlic cloves with a knife.
Put the garlic cloves in a clean jar. Pour in just enough honey to cover the garlic cloves. Be sure to leave enough space in the jar for bubbling, or fermentation gases.
Seal or get a fermentation lid.
Stir or flip the jar daily for the first week. I open the lid daily to release the gases.
The fermentation should take up to four weeks. If mold appears, discard and start over.
Daily Use:
Take a spoonful of honey daily during cold season. Grab a clove of garlic too! Lol!
Stir into warm herbal teas.
I've heard some have used as marinades and salad dressings. Hmmm ... I'll research this more ... and may try it.
Safety Notes:
Because of the raw honey, this is not safe for babies under 1.
Store in a cool, dark place. Check for spoilage.
Please consult your doctor before trying anything new to your wellness routine.
Have you ever heard of this? Did it work? I'd love to know.
