A simple one-pot turkey chili bean recipe made with ground turkey, beans, and bold spices. This turkey chili bean recipe is perfect for meal prep and comfort dinners.

Fall is upon us! I have the perfect recipe to add to your rotation of dishes. This turkey chili bean recipe is absolutely delicious! I used three different kinds of beans. Sometimes I switch it up and use two of the same kind of beans and one different, so feel free to experiment with your favorite combinations. Just make sure the measurements stay accurate, or you may need to adjust the seasonings.

You can pair this dish with cornbread for a delicious meal. You can top it with a little shredded cheese, sour cream, and chives. You can even eat it with Saltine (or your favorite) crackers. Spoon it over hot dogs and nachos.

However you choose to serve it, I hope you enjoy this dish.

Two mini pots of turkey chili beans and a slice of buttermilk cornbread.

Ingredients for Turkey Chili Beans:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 medium onion (diced)

  • 1 medium green bell pepper (diced)

  • 5 garlic cloves (chopped)

  • 2 large fresh jalapenos (chopped)

  • 2 lbs ground turkey

  • 1 can 6 oz tomato paste

  • 2 cans 14.5 oz diced tomatoes

  • 15 oz tomato sauce (2 cans)

  • (1) 15.5 oz can red kidney beans

  • (1) 15.5 oz can black beans

  • (1) 15 oz can pinto beans

  • 4 tbsp plus 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1 ½ tsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp coarse kosher salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper

  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes

  • 2 tbsp plus ½ tbsp cumin

  • 1 tsp chipotle chili pepper

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 ½ tsp garlic powder

Instructions:

1. Before beginning a recipe, I love to set up what’s called the mise en place. It’s when you read over the instructions and prepare everything before you begin to cook, so cooking is a smooth process. This is especially helpful with recipes that have quite a few steps. Measure the olive oil and seasonings/spices. Chop the vegetables. Rinse and drain the beans in a colander. Set everything aside to begin the cooking process.

2. Heat a pot on medium heat. Add the olive oil. Add in the onion, bell pepper, and jalapenos. Sauté until onions are translucent. About 3-5 minutes. Add in the garlic. Stir in with the other vegetables.

3. Add in the ground turkey, chopping it up with a large spoon as it browns.

4. Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and the tomato sauce.

5. Add in the beans.

6. Stir in all the seasonings/spices.

7. Lower the heat if necessary. Cook on low to medium for about 45 minutes to an hour.

8. Enjoy!
