Root To Rise
Updated: 4 hours ago
Reflecting.
Have you ever planted a fruit, a vegetable, an herb, maybe even a flower from seed? There's a certain depth one has to dig down in the soil before watering it immediately afterwards. If the seed is planted too deep, it can't break through to rise. If it's not planted deep enough, it can float away when it's time to be watered. Not all plants require the same depth.
It's the same with anything, including business. The business has to be rooted to rise. A lesson I've learned in business is that you have to introduce yourself in some way, shape, or form. Get people familiar with your personality, your voice. Have you ever experienced the brilliance of a business and have never heard the voice of the founder? I have. I don't care about popularity or fame. Anything that I've ever aspired to do, if it required an audience, was because of my passion for it. Not the attention. What I didn't quite understand at the time was whether some businesses have the founder as the face of the brand or not; the founder still made their voice recognizable as part of the rooting process, and then they got out of the way.
But no worries. Things land how they should in the right moment when one's intentions are in the right place.
In Real Time.
I think the beauty of building a business nowadays is that supporters get to see it from the beginning. That can also be the part that leaves you scratching your head. Trying to figure out how much to share about new projects or whether to say anything at all. For example, I still get invited to events; I still get booked, but I rarely share it anymore. I have a vision for what I want Love Jane to be, how I want to approach it, and what I'd like to offer next. I don't want my business to sound like business. I'm not sure if you quite understand what I just tried to explain. Lol. Yeah ... Love, Jane is a business. Right! But I want it to feel exclusive. I don't want it to be loud. That's why you've seen reviews, and I'll also post audios on Love, Jane soon, but you don't get a glimpse of the actual events. I also realize that advertising is a very important part of being a business. As the founder of a business I am passionate about, what do I do? Lol!! Sometimes, you have to just continue building, and then when your vision is executed, that's when you'll hear the "Ooooh!! That's what she was trying to say!" Lol! I get it, though.
Can I Rewind a Little Bit?
On the homepage, I share about the inspiration behind Leyla K's Sweet Treats. It says:
Leyla K's Cookie Collection is inspired by my beautiful children - KiLEY, KyLA, and Kenny (Kendrick) - whose names combine to create "Leyla K". I have now sold thousands of cookies and pecan candy and counting, delivering countless smiles along the way.
From the beginning, every cookie and pecan candy has been made with love and care. Now, I am excited to reintroduce Leyla K's Cookie Collection with organic ingredients.
Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or simply craving something sweet, each batch is baked fresh with love.
Love,
Jane
Did you know Leyla K's (started as Leyla's Sweet Treats before I gave birth to my sonshine) was launched over a decade ago? What I'm doing is something I've been doing for a long time. I have customers from a decade ago. I launched Love, Jane over six years ago, and I relaunched selling sweet treats afterward. Anytime I want to offer something new, I have supporters who've been seeing me for many years who'll automatically support it, so much so that I haven't finished updating my website and still get booked for business. And I do not take it for granted.
(For clarity, I haven't started selling my organic cookies yet. Just the original cookies and pecan candy).
Jewels.
Here's a story I shared several years ago.

I was slightly behind in getting online, but I knew from the moment I decided I would that I wanted to do as I do in real life - strive to uplift and encourage others. When I share jewels, I'm not trying to highlight perfection. I've always shared that. I've shared the blessing of my beautiful mommy (grandmother). I share stories at events about my father, an aunt, and what made me an empath growing up. I enjoy sharing stories, and if you've ever been to my dinner experience, my intentions of Love, Jane are realized.

As the internet aged - social media specifically - it became less about genuinely uplifting others, sharing gifts and talent, and more about clicks and views, so much so that those who genuinely have good intentions sometimes get overshadowed by the noise (This doesn’t apply to all. Just my overall observation over the years). I don't measure my worth that way.
Mama created a space of love, calm, and peace for me. My hubby and I create a space of love, calm, and peace for our children and for each other. I love love, calm, and peace. That's why I'm building a business that offers it, and when you look at Love, Jane through your eyes, I hope you see it.
If you've ever gathered to have dinner with Love, Jane, you know how the story I shared above concludes.
Love, Jane.
I'm not sure how my ideas for Love, Jane will land. What's so awesome about organically transitioning in business is that it's so exciting to think about the potential outcome. The reality is, though, I'm not sure if you'll like it, but I sure hope you do.
Jewel For Today
My Root to Rise illustration can be applied outside of business. When we are rooted in what matters, we are not screaming to be heard because we already know we're seen and heard in all the ways that are the most meaningful. You won't see me switch up my concept of business because it's small and has not been discovered by a massive crowd. Maybe it never will be. Love, Jane represents different layers of who I am. I smile knowing I'm reaching supporters who book Love, Jane and plan their day around an experience that means a lot to me, and eventually becomes a moment in time they enjoy.
Keep your light!
